I noticed that the estimated latency for Twilio is 600ms in the UI - I assume that's based on the usage of Mediastream? Is it better when using a sip trunk?

@its.jcw The latency you see in the UI for Twilio or any other service can be influenced by various factors, including the technology used for the connection. While Mediastream might have a certain latency, using a SIP trunk could potentially offer different performance characteristics. In general, SIP trunks can be very efficient and may offer lower latency due to the nature of the protocol and the direct connection it establishes between systems. However, the actual latency can still be influenced by the network infrastructure, the distance between endpoints, the quality of the internet connection, and the processing time on both ends. To get a more accurate estimate of the latency you can expect when using a SIP trunk with Twilio or to explore how to optimize your setup for lower latency, it would be best to consult directly with Twilio's support or technical documentation. They can provide specific details and guidance based on your use case and requirements. If you need assistance with anything else or have more questions, feel free to ask!

Not sure, but you can give a try!

is there a way to try it on my current non-enterprise account?
i
i've set it up and am using TwiML to connect, but i just hear a beep every couple seconds - is it possible this capability needs to be activated on my VAPI account first before I can use it?
s
Can you provide me some more context?
Like call_id or any logs through which I can debug?
s
Hi All, anyone got a call working from thier own Asterisk based server to vapi.ai. i tried but am i am aways getting a 401. i have trying using Dsiprouter/kamailio also. I can call vapi directly from a sip phone via this approach https://docs.vapi.ai/advanced/calls/sip.
s
Can you create a new support ticket?
s
will do thanks
i
i don't see anything happening on the VAPI side, but TBH i'm wondering if it's because we're not on Enterprise just yet - can you confirm a non-Enterprise account is able to use SIP? it's listed on your pricing page as an enterprise capability...
s
Non-enterprise users can’t use SIP.
i
so when I said: > is there a way to try it on my current non-enterprise account? why did you link me to the sip docs? i took that to mean you were telling me it was possible
well, regardless - i now have it implemented, so once it's activated i'll be able to actually test it out
s
Yeah.
To show, you that it is possible with Vapi.
