Issue with Assistant Audio on vapi.ai Dashboard - ...

While testing my assistant alongside an existing one, I encountered an issue where I could hear the assistant's initial response, but after that, there was complete silence. I tried speaking, but there was no reply. I’m running these tests on https://dashboard.vapi.ai by clicking on the "Talk with Assistant" button. When reviewing the call recording, I noticed that my audio wasn’t captured. Some waveform appears, as if some noise was detected, but my voice wasn’t recorded. I double-checked my setup, and the connected microphone is my external USB microphone. I’m running these tests on my computer. Could you please assist me with this issue? Thank you!

@Clebiano Sá I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing issues with the voice recording during your tests. Let's try to troubleshoot the problem together. First, please ensure that your external USB microphone is selected as the default recording device in your computer's audio settings. Sometimes, the default device might be set to something else, and changing it to your USB microphone could resolve the issue. Also, check the following: 1. Make sure the microphone is properly connected to your computer. 2. Verify that the microphone is not muted or disabled in the system settings. 3. Test the microphone in another application to ensure it's working correctly. 4. Ensure that the browser has permission to access your microphone. You can check this in the browser's privacy settings. 5. Try using a different browser to see if the issue persists. 6. Restart your computer to resolve any temporary glitches that might be affecting the microphone. If after these steps the problem still exists, please let me know, and we can explore further solutions.

@Vapi I followed these steps and it still didn't work.

@Clebiano Sá I'm sorry to hear that the issue persists. Let's try a few more steps to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem: 1. **Clear Browser Cache**: Sometimes, clearing the browser cache can resolve unexpected behavior. Please clear your browser's cache and cookies, then try again. 2. **Browser Permissions**: Double-check that your browser has the necessary permissions to access the microphone. You might need to go into the browser's settings and explicitly allow access for the VAPI dashboard. 3. **Different Device**: If possible, try accessing the VAPI dashboard from a different computer or device to see if the issue is specific to your current setup. 4. **Update Drivers**: Ensure that your USB microphone's drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause compatibility issues. 5. **Check Microphone Levels**: Go to your sound settings and check the microphone levels. Make sure the input level is high enough to capture sound. 6. **Test Microphone on VAPI Dashboard**: Some platforms have a microphone test feature. If available, use the VAPI dashboard's test feature to check if the microphone is working within that specific environment. 7. **Contact Support**: If none of these steps work, there might be an issue with the VAPI platform or a deeper technical problem with your setup. In this case, it would be best to contact VAPI support for further assistance. If you've tried all these steps and the problem is still unresolved, please let me know, and we can take additional measures to help you.

Hey @Clebiano Sá can you share the call id?
Because of no response closing this ticket.

It worked. I realized I was confusing whether the microphone was open or muted. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but in my opinion, it feels inverted. The microphone seems to be open when it’s actually muted and muted when it’s open. The roles seem reversed compared to my experience with Meet and Zoom calls. Perhaps using a different color could help clarify when it’s open or muted.
