I put in a dialogue I want the AI to follow when they make calls. How do I get it to slow down so people can answer the questions she is asking. The AI is just going from one question to the next without allowing time for the person to answer the question. Also is there another spot where I could just upload a script for it to follow. Thank you in advance
a
HeyBody Dynamics Thank you for creating the ticket! A member of our team will reach out to you shortly.
v
@Body Dynamics To ensure the AI allows time for people to answer questions during calls, you can adjust the
numWordsToInterruptAssistant
parameter to a higher value, which will give people more time to speak before the AI continues. Additionally, you can set the
maxDurationSeconds
parameter to define the maximum duration in seconds for which the AI should wait for a response before proceeding. If you have a specific script you want the AI to follow, you can typically upload it to the platform or interface you are using for your Voice API. The exact method for uploading a script would depend on the specific platform or service you are using. If you need assistance with uploading a script or adjusting the parameters, please provide more details about the platform you're using, and I'll be happy to guide you further. Would you like to adjust the
numWordsToInterruptAssistant
or
maxDurationSeconds
parameters now? If so, please provide the values you'd like to set, and I can assist you with that.
You can continue this conversation by mentioning me in the message.

I'm so new to this whole thing lol and have no clue what I'm doing. Is there someone who can call to walk me through setting my AI up?
v
Got it. Tagging @User for additional help.
b
@Vapi Vappi support bot yes I would also like to adjust the
numWordsToInterruptAssistant
or
maxDurationSeconds
parameters now? Im not sure what the values would be I just want it to slow down to allow people time to answer her questions so she is not rambling on and on
v
@Body Dynamics I understand you want to adjust the timing to allow for a more natural conversation flow. Let's start by setting
numWordsToInterruptAssistant
to a higher value, which will give the person more time to speak before the AI responds. As for
maxDurationSeconds
, this will define how long the AI waits for a response before proceeding. A common starting point might be to set
numWordsToInterruptAssistant
to around 3 to 5 words, and
maxDurationSeconds
to around 5 to 10 seconds. This should provide enough time for most people to start speaking without feeling rushed. Would you like to try these settings to see if they work for your scenario? If so, I can guide you through the process of adjusting these parameters. Please let me know if you'd like to proceed with these values or if you have other preferences.
b
@VApped yes I would like to try these settings
@Vapi yes I would like to try these settings
v
@Body Dynamics Great! To adjust the settings, you'll need to access the configuration of your Voice API where you can set the
numWordsToInterruptAssistant
and
maxDurationSeconds
parameters. Since you're new to this, I'll guide you through the process step by step. First, let's set
numWordsToInterruptAssistant
to 5 words, which means the AI will wait for the person to speak at least 5 words before it can interrupt. Then, we'll set
maxDurationSeconds
to 10 seconds, giving the person up to 10 seconds to respond before the AI continues. Please go to the section of your Voice API platform where you can edit these settings. If you're not sure where to find this, you might need to consult the documentation for your specific platform or reach out to their support team for guidance. Once you've located the settings, update them with the following values: - `numWordsToInterruptAssistant`: 5 - `maxDurationSeconds`: 10 After you've made these changes, save the configuration and test the AI to see if the conversation pace is more natural. If you need further assistance with locating these settings or if you're unsure how to proceed, please let me know, and I can provide more detailed instructions or direct you to the appropriate support channel.
b
@Vapi I'm using vapi platform where would I find this to do it
v
@Body Dynamics On the VAPI platform, you would typically adjust these settings within the script or configuration that defines the call flow. If you're not familiar with where to find this, I can guide you through the general steps: 1. Log in to your VAPI dashboard. 2. Navigate to the section where you manage your call flows or scripts. 3. Locate the script or call flow you want to adjust. 4. Look for the settings or parameters section within the script or call flow editor. 5. Update the
numWordsToInterruptAssistant
to 5 and
maxDurationSeconds
to 10. 6. Save your changes and test the call flow to ensure it's working as expected. If you're unable to find these settings or if the VAPI platform uses different terminology, it might be best to reach out to VAPI support directly for assistance. You can contact them through the support page at https://docs.vapi.ai/support. Would you like me to provide more detailed instructions, or do you need help contacting VAPI support?
b
@Vapi how to contact vapi support

Hey @Body Dynamics To help track down this issue, could you share: - The call ID - When exactly this happened (the timestamp) - What response you expected to get - What response you actually got instead This would really help me figure out what went wrong!
@Body Dynamics Because of no response closing this ticket.
