@phantom why do you want to build this like that? The advantage of using Vapi is that they handle all the abstraction of low level stuff like streaming audio, converting audio, tts, stt etc...I'm sure you can build your own tool, but then maybe Vapi is not the right place to start? Are you hoping to have this be a telephony or WebRTC app?
