Is there an alternative way I can receive inbound calls from my phone? Can I buy a phone number from VAPI? I’m from the UK

Based on the information I found, VAPI primarily offers US phone numbers directly through their platform. For UK numbers, you would typically need to import them from another provider like Twilio or Vonage. According to [VAPI's documentation](https://docs.vapi.ai/free-telephony), "Currently, only US phone numbers can be directly created through Vapi" but "You can still bring in global numbers using our phone number import feature." Would you be interested in exploring SIP integration as an alternative? VAPI supports receiving inbound calls via SIP trunking, which might be a solution for your UK-based needs. @Dan You can but a phone number from PBX providers like Zadarma and connect to VAPI, quite easily. The question is, what is your intended volume? but UK numbers are the easiest thing in the world to get.
d
Expected volume isn’t a lot really. What’s the process for this? Is there a way to import an existing number through a provider? Many thanks
n
Sure
it depends on your provider
but if you use Telnyx or Zadarma, then VAPI has a manual for that o
if it's something else, contact me over a DM - and Cloudonix will enable that connection easily
k
checking if this is resolved/solved for you?
d
This is still unsolved
n
@Dan what did you try till now? if you want, I'll be happy to spend some time and investigate this with you.
d
In the process of creating a new port request. Waiting on phone bill from provider to submit. For the letter of authorisation, would the phone number provider’s details e.g EE be filled out? If so, would I still have access to the number?
n
Ok, I think I missed some parts of the story on that one - care to give me some context ?
d
A bit more context, I’m trying to achieve an inbound automated call assistant from VAPI. It provides general Customer Support and includes Sign-Up & Cancel functions. Once user information transfers to CRM, call handovers to a member of staff to process or cancel payments. Action Steps: •Added my phone number under Predefined Functions to test handover on VAPI…but haven’t received a call •Requested port on Twilio - blocked •In the process of submitting port request on Telnyx My questions is if I port my number via Telnyx can I still access it for personal use? Do I fill out call network provider details in the authorisation letter on Telnyx?
n
If you port a phone number to a new carrier, like Twilio or Telnyx, you can't use that number on your mobile phone - if that is what you're asking
d
Appreciate the reply, in that case buying a phone number from Telnyx would be more suitable
n
Telnyx and twilio are "equal" for all practical matters. But there are dozens other providers that are more economical for large scale deployments.
d
I bought a local phone number from Telnyx verification is under review. For some reason I’ve been blocked from logging in to my account - in contact with support. Are there alternative providers to connect to Vapi? (I don’t have a business email)
n
@Dan Well, you can purchase numbers from many providers, like DIDWW, DIDlogic, DIDX, and others. That market is flooded. Connecting them to VAPI via Cloudonix is relatively easy to do. In the UK, I suggest that you try purchasing numbers from Simwood. They are a well established carrier in the UK, I've known them for years - and their service is really good. Connecting Simwood to VAPI via Cloudonix is relatively easy to do.
d
Is it possible to connect a Simwood phone number to a soft phone? If so, what are the costs?
n
Via their PBX product, probably. But I'm not familiar with the costs.
d
Thank you, I will reach out to Simwood. They happen to have a office in my city
