Verify the assistant is correctly assigned, the ID matches, tool names are accurate, the webhook response includes toolCallId, and review logs for detailed errors.
m
im not using any tools. and does that mean i have to assign the assistant in the vapi web dashboard?
this is the JSON that i am putting in the webhook response. the JSON is correct but why am i still showed the same error? https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1366752142337249311/1367027227794870333/message.txt?ex=681316d1&is=6811c551&hm=66cb30befa8b43b050fe0b950f2c55e87790ab894c15b081ecc76fa762b98408&
k
Yes, you must create and assign an assistant via the Vapi web dashboard to configure its behavior and connect it to your phone number.
m
apologies for the dumb question im building an inbound agent and i saw in a yt video that in order to build a transient agent you shouldnt connect a number in the vapi dashboard to a specific assistant. but the assistant JSON that is in make.com webhook module would connect it to the assistant. is that no longer the case?
k
Yes, to build a transient inbound agent, don’t link the number to a specific assistant in the Vapi dashboard instead, use a webhook (like from Make.com) to dynamically return the assistant JSON during each call.
m
yes the problem is the JSON Assistant i am using is this one. and when i call it, it says it couldnt get the assistant, although the JSON is correct. what am i missing?
k
Your assistant JSON structure looks mostly correct, but the error assistant-request-returned-no-assistant suggests that Vapi didn’t recognize a valid assistant being returned, double-check the webhook is returning the full assistant object as JSON in the correct format and with the correct Content-Type: application/json and make sure your assistant response "assistant" key at the top level, voice includes both voice Id and provider..
You can try returning this JSON manually via a test endpoint to verify formatting and headers..
m
for reference. i followed the exact steps in this video and it is not working now. is there a new vapi update or something that makes this not working anymore?

hi @Kings_big💫 @Shubham Bajaj . thanks for all the guidance beforehand. i have a question. i want my ai agent to make a transfercall to another human. the JSON is: "transferPlan": { "mode": "warm-transfer-wait-for-operator-to-speak-first-and-then-say-message", "message": "Hi John, I have a potential seller on the line. They're looking to sell a property located at [property address]. The home has [number of bedrooms] bedrooms, [number of bathrooms] bathrooms, and [any notable features mentioned]. They're hoping to get [target price] for the property. I'm connecting you now." } the problem is the ai does not mention the variables. The transferCall tool is simply passing the literal message text without replacing the placeholders with actual values from the conversation. The AI is literally saying "[property address]", "[number of bedrooms]", etc., instead of inserting the actual values collected during the conversation. how can i fix this? thanks again
can the ai agent capture the variables that is being said by the caller and and inject it into the JSON message in the transferPlan?
im using a single prompt agent here
k
Replace square brackets with double curly braces like {{property_address}} so Vapi can substitute actual values, and ensure those variables are properly captured during the conversation..
m
unfortunately that does not work in make. the double curly braces will automatically be a variable. which the ai cant directly change. is there any other alternative server providers besides make? https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1366752142337249311/1369351676040970302/Screen_Shot_2025-05-06_at_23.20.38.png?ex=681b8ba0&is=681a3a20&hm=812061f86ac34ac5118daf0cb8d880c8b2f3c784ae622fa9ed6e1642152c243e&

@MoSan can you share the call ID for which warm transfer is not working for you?
m
its resolved for this. but the problem is the voice is not great when the ai is explaining the summary in the transfer. is it not possible to use the same voice as the ai in the call?
k
Yes, you can use the same voice for the call summary during transfers by properly configuring the transferPlan; it defaults to using the assistant’s existing voice settings.
m
message has been deleted
this is what i got from the default one. my client didnt like it. looking to fix this but couldnt find the properties in the transferPlan configuration
j
I’d like to chime in, the voice in the recording is from Twilio say response to speak the transfer message https://www.twilio.com/docs/voice/twiml/say#voice There’s no way to change this using Vapi API at the moment. You need to implement your own transfer logic in order to change the voice speaking the transfer message
k
Can you share your call id
