BYO SIP Trunking incoming call issue
# support
д
Hi, I am trying to add a phone number from a thrid-party provider. VAPI requires to create a SIP trunk for this. I did that, using the BYO SIP Trunk. I have configured the authentication using my provider's domain, username, and password. However, the provider says it isn't registered - and VAPI AI bot says that for incoming calls, it doesn't have to, SIP trunking is for outbound only. I tried a test outbound call, it still doesn't work, but it's not a priority for me. Back to incoming calls: on my provider's platform, I see the test inbound calls that should have been answered by the assistant Riley (I am just using this for testing and not configured any assistants specifically) have status Congestion. I am forwarding the incoming calls from my provider to VAPI as explained in the docs, phone number@sip.vapi.ai. So I am not sure what to do now

For the "Congestion" status with incoming calls, check if multiple accounts are trying to route the same phone number. Try this solution: 1. Delete all existing SIPs with this number on Vapi 2. Create a new SIP trunk 3. Create the phone number 4. Link the number This error often occurs when a number is associated with multiple organizations or accounts. There can't be any multiple orgs or accs associated with this number
n
@джхд Seems to me that you are confusing multiple things into a single story - which doesn't work eventually. Who is your SIP provider ?
д
Freezvon Can you elaborate on what multiple things you mean? I'm just trying to add a SIP trunk because it's what the platform prompts me to do when I am adding the phone number.
n
Let's start with the basic. What carrier are you trying to connect?
д
As I mentioned above, it's Freezvon. They are providing me a phone number and the corresponding SIP trunk
n
OK, and the SIP trunk information they provided - what does it include? just an IP number/hostname, or also a username/password ?
д
It's hostname, username and password
n
OK, that means that your carrier requires full SIP Registration
also, is the carrier in Russia ?
to be more accurate, are you trying to purchase a Russian number ?
д
No, neither the carrier is in russia, nor the phone number. I've already purchased the phone number at the carrier, it's German, and I'm just trying to set it up with the virtual assistant at Vapi.

Hey! To help track down this issue, could you share: - The call ID This would really help us figure out what went wrong!
s
@Nir Simionovich (CEO@Cloudonix) thanks for helping @джхд
д
Sorry, where to look for call ID for an incoming call? They don't show up in call history on your platform, only outbound attempts are showing there for me.
c
Can you share the PCAP file related to the inbound calls?

@джхд Please DM me and I'll see if Cloudonix can resolve your issues.
Over the past few months, we've helped multiple VAPI customers to resolve these kind of connectitivity issues via the Cloudonix platform./

Hello @джхд , Your ticket was marked as resolved due to the absence of a response for a complete two days. As per our policy, we automatically close tickets after two days without a response.
@джхд As evident in the screenshot, the absence of authorization headers from your SIP telephony resulted in a call termination with a status code of 401. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1368547614483681322/1371657188086644736/image.png?ex=6823eecd&is=68229d4d&hm=2f489ca1ae20fd2dcb7cd20466efb77948506bdf3dcf0a30b0ce4fcfdcc10a28&
@джхд VAPI requires you to send the username and password inside the authorization header. Here password can be anything except being the empty white space whereas username has to be your SIP URI username. Let me know how it goes for you.
