Vapi-managed number stopped connecting calls

Hello, I just had a Vapi-managed number randomly stop working in production. This number has been reliably servicing calls for months, and today stopped working. There have not been any updates to the number routing or the Squad it is routed to in Vapi. No matter which assistant I route the number to, I just get the message "Welcome to Verizon Wireless. Your call cannot be completed as dialed" Any guidance on debugging what went wrong here and prenting similar outages is much appreciated! Here are the details: - Phone Number ID: 9d3b23ff-1507-4a8a-af02-047a5b60271f - Organization ID: 6ff55087-48b0-4037-a2aa-d4984d63ea98 - Squad ID: 458b0162-e196-444c-9928-c314a026b412 (this should be irrelevent -- other numbers are currently pointing to this squad and connecting, and I also tried pointing the problem number to many other working assistants and I get the same error message) - Call ID: Not applicable -- the call record does not seem to be created in Vapi. We just get an error message.

Based on the Verizon error message, your number may have been flagged as spam. This is a common issue that can happen even to previously working numbers. Recommended action: Contact Vapi support at support@vapi.ai with your Phone Number ID and Organization ID, as they can check if your number has been flagged and help resolve the issue. In your email, mention that you're receiving the "Your call cannot be completed as dialed" Verizon error message. Test the number from different carriers, verify its Vapi configuration, check for Verizon outages, review call logs, and consider reassignment if the problem persists..

Hey @Kings_big💫 , thanks for the response. Some follow ups: - Different carrers: What do you mean by testing the number from different carriers? I had several different callers call in to this number from different phones and had the same result - Very its Vapi configuration: what specifically should I be looking to verify here? The configuration has not changed in months. I've tried updating the number to point to many different (working and live) assistants and the routing does not work. - Check for Verizon outages: there were no outages listed on their website that would impact this number. Also, the number is still not working 12 hours later - Review call logs: calls to this number do not create a Vapi call log. Do you know why a call to a Vapi-managed number would not create a call log in this case?
Regarding spam, this number is used exclusively for inbound call handling, not outbound. How would a number be marked as spam if it is used exclusively for inbound calls handling?

- Testing from different carriers means calling your Vapi number using various providers to check if the issue is carrier-specific. - If call routing isn’t working despite no configuration changes, verify the assistant’s configuration, test with a different number. - it could be due to early termination before the assistant answers, configuration issues, SIP gateway failures, incorrect webhook setups..

Hey @Kings_big💫 , - Testing from different carriers -> tested from three separate carriers, all failed - The assistant's configuration is valid. I am able to redirect another number to the assistant and it works fine - Regarding your last point, is there a solution here / path forward? How can we avoid this happening again? This caused a production disruption for one of our customers and I want to ensure we are doing everything possible to prevent other numbers from randomly going out in the same way
Hey @Kings_big💫 , checking in here--do you have any insight into what might have gone wrong here? This hasn't been helpful in us understanding why a Vapi managed number suddenly stopped functioning or preventing it from happening in the future

Hello Jeffrey, I have investigated the phone number and the reason for its spam. The calls are being flagged as fraudulent. We cannot ascertain whether these calls originate from your customers, or from you. However, it is evident that these calls have been marked as spam and are subject to the fraud alert, which prevents you from making calls through our platform for this phone number. For further clarification, please feel free to contact me via direct message or via your preferred method.

Hey @Shubham Bajaj, thanks for the clarification here. I am a bit confused on how this is the explanation when: - We have not been using this number for sending outbound calls. It is a purely inbound line - It is a Vapi managed number--customers do not have access to send calls from this number How can a number be marked as spam if it is only used for inbound calls? Is this a common thing you see?
