Hi everyone!
Hope you're all doing well. I’ve run into a situation I can’t seem to resolve and I’m hoping someone here can help me out.
I work in the auto industry and I’ve built a Vapi assistant that collects information for a finance application from old leads for a car dealership. It’s working great — the main assistant prompt is around 2,800 words long.
Now, I need to add three additional branches, and each of those contains around 1,300 words of logic. Given how long this is getting, I thought it would be smarter to use a Squad and create one assistant per branch to keep things modular and manageable.
And that’s where the trouble began...
I’ve already created the individual assistants, and when I put them together into a Squad, every time one assistant tries to transfer to the next, it keeps saying “transferring the call now”, which breaks the experience — I need the customer to feel like they are still on the same uninterrupted call.
Worse yet, the assistant won’t continue the conversation until the customer speaks again, which is also not ideal for this use case.
I’ve read through the docs on squads, silent transfers, and transferCall. I tried modifying the prompt of the transferring assistant using lines like:
"Trigger the transferCall tool with 'assistantName' Assistant"
"Never say ending the call"
"Never say transferring"
And for the receiving assistant, I’ve used:
"Once connected to a customer, proceed to the Task section without any greetings or small talk"
But none of that has worked — the assistant still says “transferring the call now” every time.
Has anyone figured out how to solve this?
Thanks so much for your time — I really appreciate any guidance you can offer.
