Number A get's called -> transfers to vapi number -> Some event happens -> assistant transfers to number A. I need a clean way for the assistant to hand the caller off to a human agent without triggering the original forwarding rule. Is that even possible? or what is the recommended approach?

Use Vapi’s transferCall with warm mode to hand off the caller to a human agent without re-triggering the original forwarding rule, ensuring a smooth and controlled transfer..

Interesting 🧐 I’ll try that and report back
I tried warm mode. It transferred the call as expected, however, the AI assistant picked the phone up again. Number A has a auto-forward to the AI assistant phone number. So when the Assistant forwards to Number A it gets picked up by the assistant again. Is that expected tho? seems logical but just want to check with you.
Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my previous message.
Situation: - We have a main business number (Number A) configured with multiple extensions. - Normally, when someone calls Number A, all extensions ring simultaneously (ring group/hunt group), and any staff member can answer. What We Want: - We’d like a way for the AI assistant to easily transfer the call back to the ring group (all extensions) on Number A, so that any staff can pick up from there Question: is there a method for the assistant to transfer the call back to the entire group of extensions on Number A (rather than to a single line, which might trigger a forwarding loop)?
Any help is greatly appreciated maybe I'm missing the big picture as to how to properly set this up.

Configure the AI assistant to transfer calls directly to the ring group’s dedicated number or queue ID not the main Number A, which avoids the forwarding loop and ensures all extensions ring as intended..
