Files not used by Assistant

I've attached a file to an assistant and in the past they seem to correctly reference the file contents. I test by asking the Assistant about specific phrases or content in the file. I find now the Assistant seems oblivious to file contents. Is this subsystem working? Needless to say, it's harming functionality in a big way here.

Hey, adding the knowledge base directly doesn't work anymore. You'll need to use a query tool. If you need help with that, kindly let me know

Emmanuel has the right idea here. I have had the best results using the query tool with plain text files .txt and text searchable .pdfs, then attaching the tool to the assistant. If you need further assistance configuring that, let us know

Okay thanks. In the dashboard, I see the file attached to the Assistant. That doesn't allow the Assistant to see the file? A bit confusing as the UI implies that it does, and have not seen any notifications. Nonetheless, would be good indeed to get some guidance on the query tool. No idea how it works are that it is needed! Appreciate your help.
Okay I followed the instructions, added query tool to the Assistant, configured it with a Knowledge Base, added the file to the knowledge base. Saved it all. But the assistant doesn't see the file contents. Can you look at the assistant to see what's wrong?
e
maybe the configuration is quite bad. also, what model are you using for your query tool?

Thanks. Gemini 1.5 Flash
The file is just a .txt file less than 300kb long
When I ask about what's in the file, it shows that the tool is used successfully, but it does not return anything about what I asked about, terms I know to be in the file attached to the knowledge base.
Okay, so stuck then. Thanks anyway. Disappointed.

Hey Ron Martinez, I sincerely apologize for the delay in our responses this week. We experimented with some process adjustments that didn’t work as intended, and unfortunately, this caused some disruptions. That’s entirely my responsibility. Just a quick note—our team is unavailable on weekends. However, if something urgent or critical comes up, feel free to reach out to me directly, and I’ll assist you. The support issues will be resolved in the coming weeks, and starting Monday, you can expect more consistent and improved support. Thank you so much for your patience and for continuing to stick with us!
Make sure in your assistant prompt that the query tool is called when you need a specific question answered by the file contents. In your assistant prompt:
When a customer asks about (insert question here), use the 'mental edge query tool' and respond with the information from the tool. Respond with the exact information from the file and do not deviate.
If this does not work, could you please provide a call or chat id so we can review the logs and identify the root cause of the issue?

Thanks, and sorry for the delayed response. I was able to get the query tool functioning. Appreciate the support. Having trouble with an API calling tool now, in the Support thread.

Great! We will continue the conversation through your other support request thread. See you soon.
