As I provide basic info about pricing using an .md file either as knowledge tool or as directly attached files the Assistant never retrieves any info saying there is no info in KB. No matter what i try, perhaps .md files are not supported? should i upload PDF? btw: attaching .md files directly to the assistant via files gives an error but using the Files menu and uploading them one by one does allow the files to be uploaded. (but this is another issue) What has changed? this used to work before Example When using only attached Files (to Assistant): "question": pricing? defaultQueryTool { "knowledgeBaseNames": [ "default" ] } Response Data: Success. When using only query_tool (removing the files from the assistant, relying the query_tool tool calling) {"knowledgeBaseNames": ["MyCompany_Knowledge_Base"]} Response Data: Success. ---- Here is the actual .md file used in both cases, couldn't be more simple MyCompany Pricing Plans Essential Plan: - Price: $0 - Credit Cards processing fee: 0.5%* - Features: Pay as you go, Single user, Payment links, Transaction History, Pass Off Transaction Fees Business Plan: - Price: $10 Every month - Features: All Essential features, Multiple Users, Automatic Recurring Transactions, Hold to Pay, Vanishing payment links, Priority Support Premium Plan: - Price: $35 Every month - Features: All Business features, 0%* Credit Cards processing fee Additional Information: - *Excluding gateway fees. Hi Liam T Bilich, If you're encountering issues with the Query Tool in your voice assistant, here are some steps to troubleshoot and ensure it's properly configured: 1. **Verify Knowledge Base Configuration**: Make sure your knowledge base files are uploaded and associated with the correct file IDs in your [Vapi dashboard](https://dashboard.vapi.ai/). Ensure that the Query Tool is correctly referencing these IDs. 2. **Check the Tool Attachment**: Ensure that the query tool is attached to your assistant. This can be done by navigating to the
Assistants
section, selecting your assistant, and adding the tool via the Tools section. 3. **System Prompt Instructions**: Confirm that your assistant's system prompt includes explicit instructions for when to use the query tool. The tool's function name should be clearly mentioned, so the assistant knows when to make use of the knowledge base. 4. **Dashboard Testing**: Use the [dashboard testing](https://dashboard.vapi.ai/) features to test your tool with sample data to verify that it responds as expected. 5. **Quick Diagnostics**: If the tool seems non-responsive, use immediate checks in the [Vapi dashboard](https://dashboard.vapi.ai/) via the
Observe
section to review call logs and transcripts for error messages. For further detailed steps on setting up and testing, refer to the [Query Tool documentation](https://docs.vapi.ai/knowledge-base/using-query-tool). If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may help to examine the specific call logs for any error messages that could indicate the problem.

Hi, I can help you figure out why your assistant isn’t reading info from your .md files. It might be a parsing or indexing issue with markdown in the latest update. Can you check if the files actually show up in your knowledge base after upload? Try converting one file to .pdf or .txt to see if it retrieves data properly. That’ll help us confirm if it’s a format or system issue. @Liam T Bilich

Hi Liam T Bilich, To migrate from Trieve, first, choose between a Custom Knowledge Base or a Google Knowledge Base. [Here's a detailed guide](https://docs.vapi.ai/knowledge-base/migrating-from-trieve) on the migration process. This guide includes steps to export your data, set up a server for a custom knowledge base, or use the Google Knowledge Base. If you want automatic retrieval as with Trieve, the Custom Knowledge Base is recommended. After exporting your data, set up your server, and update your assistant to use the new knowledge base. For advanced steps on creating and configuring a Custom Knowledge Base, refer to [this documentation](https://docs.vapi.ai/knowledge-base/custom-knowledge-base). For any specific configuration or setup issues, feel free to ask for further assistance.
