if I understand your question, yes there needs to be somewhere to retrieve the memories from and mem0 supports these databases: https://docs.mem0.ai/components/vectordbs/overview#supported-vector-databases mem0 might be overkill but if you understand how that works you can build something more lightweight with an LLM and a datastore.
