Hey everyone, I just purchased a Twilio number (+3280042019) and I'm trying to import it into Vapi, but I get the error "Phone number already in use by another org." I'm guessing it's a recycled number that was previously linked to someone else. Can you check why we are getting this error? Thanks!

That error usually means the Twilio number was previously connected to another Vapi org and wasn’t fully released on their side. It’s common with recycled numbers. Best fix: ask Vapi to manually detach/reset the number, or release it from the old org. On your end, Twilio is fine nothing misconfigured. @Gilles Once Vapi clears it, you should be able to import it right away.

From what I’ve seen, once Vapi manually clears it, it’s usually a few hours, worst case same business day. It’s not an automated thing someone just has to unlink it from the old org. If it’s been more than 24 hours after flagging it, that’s when it’s reasonable to follow up.
