pass it to a different agent in a squad with voice settings set to slower speakign speeds? Or tell it to just say each letter individually...

I totally get how frustrating that is, when an agent gets emails or phone numbers wrong, it really hurts the experience. This usually happens when the voice speaks too fast or doesn’t pause properly between characters. Slowing the speech down and adding a clear “let me repeat that back to you” step can make a big difference. It also helps to spell out emails and numbers one character at a time. Are you using Vapi’s default voice and settings, or have you customized them? @joey

at this point everything works, the only thing is we created a method to let is pronounce the email slow. For example the email adress is abc@gmail.com > it now says: the letter A, the letter B, the letter c, @ gmail . com. We are using a voice of elevenlabs
Won't that impact the latency?

This is actually a super common limitation with voice systems, even humans mess up emails, Voice just isn’t great for precision like that. A smoother approach is to collect or confirm emails via SMS/WhatsApp or other channel alongside the voice call. Happy to share how we’ve handled this if you want, just let me know.

Test it
also just check the amoutn of time normal handoffs take
should givey ou an idea of the lag
→ in call logs

Hey 👋 can you share a Call ID where this happened? That’ll let us look at the exact timing and voice behavior and give more precise suggestions. If you’re using ElevenLabs, you can also enable SSML parsing and insert short pauses between letters when spelling emails. For example, adding small
<break time="200ms"/>
sections between characters can make the spelling much clearer without sounding rushed. Send over a Call ID and we’ll take a closer look 👍
