I’ve seen this happen before, and it’s usually caused by routing or media handshake delays between Telnyx and Vapi on outbound calls. Inbound works fine because the call path is shorter, but outbound often adds extra hops that introduce latency. To help pinpoint this, are you using SIP trunking or number forwarding for the Telnyx → Vapi connection? Also, are your outbound calls routed through Telnyx or directly from Vapi? @DREALHECTOR

routed through telynx i just connected the number to vapi i am using a nigerian phone number from telynx and it works just fine from telynx @James Christopher

Since inbound is working fine, the number itself isn’t the problem. This feels more like a routing or media delay on the outbound side through Telnyx, especially with Nigerian routes, a small config issue can easily cause that 3–5 second gap. Are you forcing PCMU only, and do you have media anchoring enabled on Telnyx? If you’re open to it, send me your SIP/outbound settings privately and I’ll take a proper look at it with you.
