Transcripts & recording in HIPAA mode?

Hello! Are we still able to get transcripts & recordings in HIPAA mode from the call? We don't want it stored in VAPI, but we'd like to have access to these artifacts for our downstream processing.
z
With HIPAA mode enabled (hipaaEnabled: true), Vapi does not store transcripts, recordings, or call logs on its platform — all sensitive call content is purged to meet HIPAA requirements. If you need access to those artifacts for downstream processing, you must either configure your own HIPAA-compliant cloud storage (so Vapi uploads them to your bucket) or set up a webhook to receive transcripts/audio in real time and persist them yourself. Without one of these, the raw call data won’t be available after the call ends.
b
I'm fine having them uploaded to my bucket, how do I set that up?
f
Hey! Yes, absolutely you can still access transcripts and recordings in HIPAA mode without storing them in VAPI. The key is configuring a custom storage destination (your S3 or GCS bucket) so artifacts get routed directly there instead. The main thing to sort out first: which cloud provider is your bucket on? (AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, or other?) That'll determine the exact setup steps for the credential configuration on your end.
b
AWS S3 – is that just for recordings or also for transcripts? in the Integrations pane i see a way to set up S3 but it assumes it goes under the /recordings tab.
Also, is HIPAA mode available in the pay-as-you-go model, or will I need an enterprise plan?
f
Yes, S3 works for both recordings and transcripts the /recordings label in the Integrations pane is just misleading. HIPAA mode requires an enterprise plan, not pay-as-you-go. I can walk you through the full setup feel free to reach out directly if you'd like my help on this!
