Assistance Needed for Connecting South African Num...

Hi VAPI Support, I am currently working with a client in South Africa and facing challenges connecting a South African number to my VAPI agents. Here’s a quick overview of the situation: 1) Twilio Setup: We’ve registered with Twilio and have successfully approved our regulatory bundle for the South African number. However, Twilio only offers routing through the US, Ireland, and Australia, which is preventing proper call handling in South Africa. As a result, importing a South African number to Twilio does not seem viable for our use case due to the routing limitations. 2) Exploring Vonage: We also explored Vonage as an alternative to purchase a South African number but discovered that Vonage does not allow purchasing South African numbers directly. They do, however, offer the option to port an existing South African number. Given that both Twilio and Vonage have their limitations in South Africa, I would like to know if there is an alternative solution to connect a local South African number directly to VAPI agents or squads, bypassing these routing restrictions. We need this setup to work seamlessly for local South African calls. Could you please suggest: Any workaround or alternative provider that supports local South African numbers and connects to VAPI agents? The best steps to configure this connection, ensuring reliable routing within South Africa? Any guidance on how to achieve this would be greatly appreciated, as we are looking to set up reliable call handling for our clients in South Africa. Many thanks, Alex

@sasha@digithought Hi Alex, Thank you for reaching out with your query. I understand the importance of having a reliable connection for your clients in South Africa. Here's what we can do: 1) **Purchase a Number Through Vapi**: Since you're facing routing issues with Twilio and Vonage, you can directly purchase a South African phone number through Vapi. We can provision the phone number for you via Twilio, and since you've already approved your regulatory bundle with them, this should streamline the process. 2) **Configuration for Local Routing**: Once you have the South African number, we can configure it to ensure that the routing is handled locally within South Africa. This will help in achieving seamless call handling for local calls. To proceed with purchasing a South African number through Vapi, you can use the dashboard or the API. Since you're looking for guidance, I would suggest using the dashboard as it provides a more user-friendly interface for this process. Here are the steps to purchase a number through the Vapi dashboard: - Log in to your Vapi dashboard. - Navigate to the section where you can purchase phone numbers. - Search for available South African numbers. - Select the number you wish to purchase and follow the prompts to complete the transaction. Once the number is purchased, you can configure it in your Vapi account to connect with your agents or squads. If you need any assistance during this process or have further questions, please feel free to ask. We're here to ensure that your setup is successful and meets your requirements for local South African call handling. Best regards, VAPI Support

The best way would be to do it via SIP trunking, though that feature is only available for enterprise users.

Hey @Sahil thanks for getting back to me. Sorry could you please give me some clarity on that. So i would need to get enterprise plan with Twillio or where? Is there anyone that can help me set it up so i can start implementing this for my South African clients. I am really stuck here. I also dont mind paying for the help. Right now i have about 7 clients in South Africa wanting AI Callers.

Hello @sasha@digithought thanks for querying this. I'm curious if you managed to find a solution? I'm in SA at the moment and unable to receive calls from Vapi.
