MP3 File - Static
# support
a
Sometimes when I use an MP3 file as the opening line, there’s a lot of static when the call starts. I have to stop the call and restart it, after which it works fine every time. However, if I leave it for a while and come back, the static returns. I also tried using a WAV file, which played, but the speech was slowed down. Are there specific export settings we should use for MP3 and WAV files to ensure they play correctly?

@Akshay I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with static and audio playback quality. To ensure the best performance when using MP3 or WAV files in voice applications, here are some general guidelines you can follow: 1. **Bit Rate**: For MP3 files, a constant bit rate of 128 kbps is a good balance between quality and file size. For WAV files, since they are typically uncompressed, the bit rate will be much higher. 2. **Sample Rate**: A sample rate of 44.1 kHz is standard for MP3 files and is CD quality. This should also work well for WAV files. 3. **Channels**: Use mono (single channel) for voice recordings to ensure compatibility and reduce file size. If stereo is required, make sure it is properly encoded. 4. **Encoding**: Ensure that the MP3 file is encoded using a standard encoder. Some encoders may introduce artifacts that can cause issues during playback. 5. **Normalization**: Normalize the audio to prevent clipping and to ensure consistent volume levels. 6. **File Integrity**: Check the file for any corruption or errors. Sometimes re-exporting the file can resolve hidden issues. If you've followed these guidelines and are still experiencing issues, it could be related to the system or the way the files are being processed by the API. In that case, please provide more details or reach out to support for further assistance.

I set it to those settings and the problem still happens intermittently. Seems to only happen when I first set the file and then it goes away after it loads the file once. It does come back after a while though. Here is the sound you hear (733337e5-3c9c-464b-9ebd-9b40e7921546)

@Akshay is your mp3 files sample rate is 16khz? If not then you need to fix your recording to match the sample rate.
a
@Shubham Bajaj I just tried this and it still doesn't work. The first load is always static and then it works.
I think it's something to do with caching?
You can hear it on this Call ID 86bad167-b47d-43d4-a0eb-c320d3cd6b7c
s
@Akshay I just wanted to confirm, are you saying that the MP3 file doesn't load the first time, but works fine for subsequent calls?
r
I had the same thing happen to me the first time. Crossing my fingers it doesn't occur on subsequent talks.
I just created a new agent with a new audio file and the first time I connected a call via the web it did the same thing with loud white noise static. Seems to be a reproducible bug.
What sample rate do you require? I just initiated an outbound call and the playback is really slow.
s
@Ryan Opfer We Require 16khz sample rate, the first load sometimes is static and then it works smoothly.
a
@Shubham Bajaj That isn't always the case. THe inital load is static but then when you leave it and come back, the static does come back.
s
@Akshay can you share few of recent call IDs so I could take a look?
n
Hey @Shubham Bajaj, i have the same issue with the white noice static. Already recorded new audio and checked the sample rate for 16khz. Here are some Call ID's: - 27edb547-ab0c-4a18-8ea9-5ebd677cc7a1 - f2229310-bd00-48d3-b6cc-700a1cd781f5 - 84d30f06-4862-4e6d-a308-8fe29382df38 - e881996e-6303-4614-abad-6966e3386fd7 - d898a955-2ff5-45c0-ae2b-11d06328a8bc

@Niklas @Akshay Thank you for bringing this up. Yes, the recordings have distorted audio. While we investigate, could you please use string content or static messages as an alternative? This will require some time for a complete investigation and reproduction on our end. As you know, there are other parallel tasks involved, so I cannot provide an ETA at this point since we are only looking at the surface level of the issue.
Hey @Niklas can you confirm if the audio files used have sampling rate of 16khz?
n
Yes
Also tried with different files
Hey @Shubham Bajaj, do you have an Update for me? Still the same issue
s
@Niklas Hey, we are investigating this issue. Is this the highest priority issue for you? If yes, I will try to make it a priority ticket for us.
n
Yes it is for us a high priority. Would be nice!

update
Use a sample rate of 16kHz with WAV file type and it should work. Please let me know how it goes. FYI: Following call ids were used for evaluation. 9f9554a2-53c6-4ad5-88ca-b399ef42f839 e881996e-6303-4614-abad-6966e3386fd7 f2229310-bd00-48d3-b6cc-700a1cd781f5
