Yes RAG is not as reliable as in prompt data. If you can embed the content related to the context of the discussion into the prompt it will definitely work better. In regards to missing data that can also be related to the fuzziness of LLM's not following your instructions exactly :). Feel free to ping me if you have questions or need help!
