Setup a SIP trunk on a VPN tunnel?

Basically looking for some documentation to setup a VPN tunnel between our cloud and VAPI's SIP gateway

To set up a VPN tunnel between your cloud and Vapi's SIP gateway, follow these general steps: 1. Set up VPN tunnel between your network and Vapi's SIP gateway 2. Configure your server to route SIP traffic through the VPN 3. Update SIP trunk configuration to use private IP addressing For SIP configuration, use
sip.vapi.ai
as the server address on port
5060
with UDP transport. For detailed configuration assistance, please contact Vapi support. Sources: - [Discord Channel](https://discord.com/channels/1211482211119796234/1344339594195374176) - [Discord Channel](https://discord.com/channels/1211482211119796234/1329037681908383794)

@Pigeon but I need this setup over a vpn tunnel. Do you know if that's possible?
p
Ah, sorry didn't notice VPN, although I don't think there are any docs on that https://discord.com/channels/1211482211119796234/1344339594195374176/1344545449188790292

@Shubham Bajaj apologies for tagging. But would appreciate some information here. Thanks!

@Karthik | Langtrace AI Is there a specific reason you need this connection over a VPN?
A VPN connection is something that requires manual configuration, for VAPI to maintain a VPN aggregation layer to be self-managed by customers would be a massive digrassion from their business, so I'm highly doubtful they will ever enable such a solution.

@Nir S (CEO/Founder @Cloudonix) - it’s a requirement for one of our clients. From this comment, it does seem like they support it though. https://discord.com/channels/1211482211119796234/1344339594195374176/1344545449188790292

BTW, the requirement is somewhat useless. 95% of global telephony traffic is completely un-encrypted. So, unless there is a legitimate reason here, like inter-company communications - the requirement is either illogical or illegal.
k
Hello Karthik, We do not support it natively. You must add a middle layer and handle all round trip time and packet transmission.
let me know if you require help.
k
@Shubham Bajaj - could you explain a bit more about the middle layer. Do you have any documentation that you can share with me. Thanks.
Got it, yea, I hear you. We are trying to convince them aswell.
n
@Karthik | Langtrace AI when @Shubham Bajaj says a middle layer, he means a platform like cloudonix that can potentially do some network manipulations or encryptions, and then pass the call over to VAPI. If you can't get your customer to withdraw from from the VPN idea, DM me and I'll see if we can help.
k
Ok got it. Thank you
k
checking if this is resolved/solved for you?
k
@Shubham Bajaj not yet. we are currently blocked on this. could you explain a bit more about the middle layer. Do you have any documentation that you can share with me. Thanks.
n
@Karthik | Langtrace AI I don't believe @Shubham Bajaj has our information, but you can read more about Cloudonix at https://cloudonix.com and review our developer website at https://developers.cloudonix.com
k
Thanks @Nir S (CEO/Founder @Cloudonix) , will check it out
k
We do not have any official documentation regarding that implementation.
