I’m using Microsoft Azure Speech-to-Text via API and I’ve noticed that usage appears both in my Azure account and in VAPI’s billing for the same calls. Could you please clarify if I’m being charged twice?
v
You should not be billed twice for Microsoft Azure Speech-to-Text usage if you have added and validated your Azure API key in the Vapi dashboard. In this setup, Vapi routes your requests using your key, so you are billed directly by Azure and **Vapi does not charge you for that provider's usage**—only for its own platform fee. To ensure this, add your Azure API key under the Provider Keys tab in the [Vapi Dashboard](https://dashboard.vapi.ai/). If you see charges from both, double-check that your key is validated and active in Vapi's settings. But im wondering why the usage is still displayed in VAPI in the Cost bar, is this correct?
v
Yes, it is correct for Vapi to display the full cost breakdown—including provider usage—in the Cost bar, even if you are only billed directly by Azure for that component. This display is for transparency and tracking purposes, so you can see the total cost of each call, but Vapi only charges its own platform fee if your API key is validated. You are not being double-billed; the provider cost shown is informational.
