Vapi AI's having bad Instruction Interpretation?

01/19/2026, 8:15 PMMy AI used to work perfectly well, like sending dtmf after being transferred. Now it doesn't. I can't figure out why because I made no changes.
Any reason why this is happening?
Anyone else experiencing bad instruction following?

01/20/2026, 4:30 PMMy issues I experienced were inside the vapi.ai website, it was suddenly never ending the call, despite my prompts being EXTREMELY good and VERY reliable, and as I kept testing and using diff models... just anything to fix this... I realized other issues:
- bizarre sounds from AI voice like meowing, growling, exaggerated sighs
- not ending calls reliably all of a sudden
- still unreliable at ending calls even after simplifying and minimizing the prompt 3-5 times
- talking about things not in the prompt (selling solar panels, advertising VAPI, other VAPI talk)
- realizing its not using the {{ }} variable I set up in the squads testing environment
- ... restarted my PC two times throughout this process as well too lol

Plus:
1. Squads constantly just loads forever (I have to refresh like 3-5 times before it loads in)
2. Or it loads in disconnected (I have to refresh)
3. Or it even shows that the assistants are deleted? (I just refresh)
Clearly some issues are going on. I need advice on how to fix it

01/20/2026, 10:06 PMI found the issue, VAPI had an update change the way it reads the prompts. Slanted quotation marks and others like ' (but slanted) break the code.

Can you give me some more information- Call ID where this happened? Did it solve your problem? Have you come across any official source for this update? And of the things you mentioned, did it solve all the issues?
