Invalid key in https://dashboard.vapi.ai/assistant...

In the past I use to fix this issue by creating a new api key and reloading the browser (sometimes clearing the cache). Now I am unable to fix it and whatever I do I cannot "talk to assistant", then I get the attached error. Any ideas on how to fix this? For the record this is using the vapi UI via a browser. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1465634631725482061/1465634632069419104/image.png?ex=6979d21e&is=6978809e&hm=fc38ce7f2df1df55ab3b5a353f75bcdbf911ffc9de1cdc06a4a1e979e638ffda&

Try this: Go to your Vapi Dashboard → Profile → API Keys, and make sure you are using the Public API Key (not the Private API Key) for browser-based actions. Paste the public key into the required field, reload your browser, and try again. If the issue persists, generate a new Public API Key and repeat the process. This step directly addresses the "Invalid Key" error as described in the documentation ([see docs](https://docs.vapi.ai/chat/web-widget)). I have recreated the public api key and have cleared my browser cache but still no luck. Something else is wrong here.

Hi, Thanks for reaching out. What’s happening: The dashboard is still using a cached public API key when you try to run test calls. Even after deleting the default key, the frontend may continue sending the old (now deleted) key in the Authorization header, which results in a 401 Unauthorized error. This is a frontend caching issue. Client‑side fix (recommended): 1. Go to Vapi Dashboard → API Keys → Public API Keys 2. Create a new Public API key • You can reuse the same name as before • Leave all other options blank 3. Click Create Public Token 4. Perform a hard refresh of the dashboard (Ctrl + Shift + R) 5. Go back to your assistant and click “Talk to assistant” This forces the dashboard to pick up the new public key instead of the cached one. Please try this and let us know if it resolves the issue.

this is exactly what I used to do but no longer works. After clearing the cache i get the same error.
i tested this from another browser which i have never used for vapi and it does the same.

Hi awen1s, sorry about that. Vapi team members have the "VapiTeam" role, so please verify that before trusting any links. Thanks for informing me about that.
For the invalid key error, could you please invite us to your organization at bharath@vapi.ai and shaunak@vapi.ai? We'll take a look.

This is absolutely a scam. Look they made a fake "Ticket" thread under the wins channel lol. Wrong category. And the person in the image is a brand new user. And a guy who's name says "admin" (but is NOT an admin) is here trying to police you.

THANKS GUYS, invite sent.

Hi, I have fixed the issue. You have to add a public key with its default configurations for it to work. Please hard refresh (Ctrl + Shift + R) your vapi dashboard before trying to make a test call.
For anyone else facing the same issue, please follow these steps to fix it. 1. Open Vapi dashboard -> API Keys -> Public API Keys 2. Create a public key, keep any name, but make sure to leave the remaining options blank, it should look something like this (see attached image below) 3. Click Create Public Token 4. Hard refresh the dashboard (
Ctrl + Shift + R
) 5. Navigate to your assistant -> Click "Talk to assistant" button on top right. This bug is being addressed right now from our end, and the fix will be rolled out very soon. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1465634631725482061/1465782848962170941/image.png?ex=697a5c28&is=69790aa8&hm=54ae9ba4c8d0dcdf8842b07ff9dfcae3f1fee4ae819846d5dac183d2fb4933e2&
