URGENT! Invalid Key ERROR.

Hello Vapi Team! I created a post before, but didn't receive any usefull help, just advice to create a ticket on a website (i'd done it twice). The main problem is that i can't test my assistant, because when i hit the "talk" button, an error occurs: "Invalid Key. Hot tip, you may be using the private key instead of the public key, or vice versa". As i understood, i can't even configure it by myself, cuz it is not a widget on MY website, it is a button on YOUR website. I'd checked dev tools and it confirmed that it sends my PRIVATE key, including the fact that i have a public one! I tried several things: - deleting private key and keeping public; - creating new public key; - creating new assistant; NOTHING HELPS! I'm waiting for about a week, nobody answers, but i urgently need an opportunity to check the data flow. PLEASE, could you check my post, tickets and help in solving my problem, i'd be gratefull a lot. I can imagine how frustrating that is, especially when the issue is happening directly inside Vapi’s own dashboard and not from your implementation. From what you described, this looks more like a key-mapping/session issue on the workspace side rather than an assistant configuration problem. I’ve dealt with similar Vapi auth/debug cases before and can help you troubleshoot it directly. Quick question, does the error happen only on the web “Talk” button, or also when testing through API/Web SDK calls with the same assistant? @vbsolxte
v
That sounds encouraging, thanks for your response. I haven't tested the API requests, so I can't give a definitive answer, but the "talk" button still returns an error, which prevents me from analyzing the backend's functionality. @Matt

Understood. Since the issue is happening specifically on the dashboard “Talk” button, the best next step is to test the assistant directly via the Public Key/API flow to isolate whether it’s a UI auth issue or backend configuration issue... We can discuss more privately.

If I understand correctly, I need to embed a call widget on a specific page? I've never done anything like this before, but I have a portfolio website where I could embed the widget and test it out.
m
Yes exactly, embedding the widget on your portfolio site is actually a good way to test it independently from the Vapi dashboard. The goal here is just to verify whether the assistant works correctly when initialized with your Public Key outside the dashboard environment.

Confirmed — the embed works. Set the widget up on my portfolio site with the same Public Key and Assistant ID. I was able to start a call, the assistant greeted me, and we had a proper back-and-forth conversation. On hangup the end-of-call webhook fired to my backend as expected (the call itself wasn't fully recorded on my side, but that's a separate issue on my workflow, not on Vapi). So the Public Key and the assistant itself work fine outside the dashboard. The issue does look isolated to the dashboard Talk button. What would you suggest as the next step from your side? Happy to capture any logs or details from the dashboard side that would help. @Matt
support team answered! all works now. case solved.
