GPT Realtime does not work

Hello, when I use GPT realtime as my model for voice, it works perfectly fine in the web browser testing function but when I call it sounds extremely deep, distorted, and slow. How can I fix this? Is there a better alternative that works with low latency?

Hi, I can help with this. The issue is often caused by audio codec, sample rate mismatches, telephony settings, or voice model configuration between the browser and phone call pipeline. I’ve worked with GPT Realtime voice integrations and can troubleshoot the distortion, deep voice, and latency issues, then optimize the setup for clearer, low-latency calls. Feel free to share your current stack and settings. @TTT
I am using a built in Vapi phone number

Since you're using a built-in Vapi number, the issue is less likely to be the carrier and more likely related to the model audio settings.
These are all of my settings I can think of that I may have changed

I noticed you're using the GPT Realtime model with a custom voice. I'd check the voice configuration first and also test with another voice/model combination to see if the distortion persists.

I am using the default voice that comes with GPT realtime. Also I have tried several voices and there is no improvements

Hey @ttt is the issue resolved? If not, can you please share the call ID so I can look into it

Hi, I was able to fix this by using a Twilio phone number instead of a Vapi phone number. I am unsure why, but at least it works now

Glad to hear the issue was fixed. Let me know if you need help with something else
