Hi there! 👋 I understand you're experiencing audio quality issues with your Telnyx calls where the audio sounds like "speaking into a toaster." While I can't access the specific call logs for the IDs you've provided or verify your specific Vapi account status, I can definitely help with common causes and troubleshooting steps for this type of audio quality issue with Telnyx. ## Common Causes & Troubleshooting Steps This "speaking into a toaster" audio quality issue has been reported by other users. Here are some potential causes and solutions: ### 1. Telnyx Denoiser Setting Telnyx has a built-in denoiser that might need to be enabled: - According to [user reports](https://discord.com/channels/1211482211119796234/1211483291191083018/threads/1337367225384046634), enabling Telnyx's built-in denoiser can often solve audio quality issues. ### 2. Configuration Issues Check these Telnyx-specific configurations: - Verify your [outbound authentication method](https://docs.vapi.ai/advanced/sip/telnyx), including VAPI's fixed IPs and Tech Prefix settings - Ensure [outbound voice profiles](https://docs.vapi.ai/advanced/sip/telnyx) are correctly set up - Confirm your [inbound authentication](https://docs.vapi.ai/advanced/sip/telnyx) has the correct FQDN (sip.vapi.ai) and port (5060) ### 3. Audio Processing Settings - Check if VAD (Voice Activity Detection) settings are correctly configured to capture speech properly - Verify that [audio channel separation](https://discord.com/channels/1211482211119796234/1211483291191083018/threads/1316042862630146058) is working correctly - Consider setting endpointing to 300 to improve quality, as [suggested by users](https://discord.com/channels/1211482211119796234/1211483291191083018/threads/1338470163825033287) ### 4. Codec Compatibility - The issue might be related to codec compatibility. Telnyx uses PCMU/8000, PCMA/8000, and opus/48000/2 codecs - Ensure these codecs are properly supported by both Telnyx and your phones
### 5. Background Noise Settings - Check if
backgroundSound
is set to "off" and
backgroundDenoisingEnabled
is set to
false
in your configuration - Enabling background denoising might help improve audio quality Is there anything specific from these troubleshooting steps you'd like me to elaborate on further? Hey wunderwaffe, Thanks for bringing this up. I've noted both of your call IDs, looked into the call logs, and listened to the call recording. I do find something is wrong here. Allow me some time to get back to you with the proper analysis and investigation.

Hello @Shubham Bajaj, I have the same issue on my side. Here's a call ID with Telnyx that is noisy:
43aeb40f-a23c-466a-9b2e-3e8e7a94c399
. Then, we tested with a VAPI phone number, and something strange happened too. On my side, I heard the assistant talking slowly, but in the recording, my voice was sped up:
0ff1bf23-a4fc-4734-86e3-136077198b16
.

All of the calls have significantly long delta times from the Telnyx, approximately 4 seconds or more. During this period, customers experience a complete absence of audio. Based on our current assessment, this issue appears to be on Telnyx's end, as their service is relatively new and requires further development and optimization.
